Dear Saints, we know that when we ask God to meet our needs, He will do
so on His terms and not ours. "Ask,
and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it
will be opened to you (Matt 7:7)." The
problem that arises is that our greed surpasses God’s timing,
and in so, we cause chaotic conditions around us that can, if we
succumb to them, overcome us:
This condition is an obsession of possession. We see it, we
want it; if we cannot have it when we want it, we take it!
"And He said to them, 'Take
heed and beware of covetousness, for one’s life does not
consist in the abundance of the things he possesses' (Luke
12:15).”
True joy is sharing and enjoying what you have, not hoarding and
wringing your hands and saying, “Mine, its all
mine.” It
is a sad state to see someone that is surrounded with abundance,
looking around to see what more there is to posses, when those things
that had to be had, are gathering dust. When is enough,
enough? If this is you, turn from your greed - It truly is better to
give than to receive (accumulate). "Every
man shall give as he is able, according to the blessing of the LORD
your God which He has given you (Deut 16:17)."
A
covetous heart is evil; it will not only destroy you, it will affect
everyone around you. A covetous person is truly obsessed with the greed
of possessing not only what they have, but what someone else has also.
"You lust and do not have. You murder and covet and cannot obtain. You fight and war (James 4:2)." Beware
of those who are scheming to possess what God has given you. You may
not know who they are but The Holy Spirit does, and if you are attuned
to Him, He will tell you…So listen and heed His warning.
"13 They are spots and blemishes, carousing in their own deceptions
while they feast with you, 14 having eyes full of adultery and that
cannot cease from sin, enticing unstable souls. They have a heart
trained in covetous practices, and are accursed children (2 Peter
2:13-14)."
I am not trying to embed fear into anyone, for most people are good
and caring. But what I am saying is to keep vigilant and you
will not be taken by surprise.
"No one can
enter a strong man’s house and plunder his goods, unless he first
binds the strong man. And then he will plunder his house (Mark 3:27)."
You
have heard that, 'you are as your friends are.' Choose your friends
wisely for they could be wolves in sheep’s clothing. "But
now I have written to you not to keep company with anyone named a
brother, who is sexually immoral, or covetous, or an idolater, or a
reviler, or a drunkard, or an extortioner—not even to eat with
such a person (1 Cor 5:11)."
Is your church or place of worship a safe haven? No! Satan walks the earth and he is not barred entry from entering into any establishment - and sad to say he knows the inside of every church, synagogue, and any and all places of worship, in detail. "And the LORD said to Satan, “From where do you come?” So Satan answered the LORD and said, “From going to and fro on the earth, and from walking back and forth on it (Job 1:7).” When entering God’s House we need to focus on Our Lord Jesus and not on the persons around us. When we take our eyes off Jesus, we are susceptible to the snares of the evil one. The devil knows the heart of man and his weaknesses; he will dangle a carrot in front of you to lead you astray if you allow him access. "Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour (1 Peter 5:8)."
The covetous person does not regard your feelings or safety. When greed overwhelms good sense, no one, or no thing is safe. Many who have been called to minister have turned from the Lord to follow the path of disgrace. Destiny and I have seen in many churches, the turmoil caused by a covetous spirit that has had its way over the pulpit and congregation. Once this disease has matured, it leaves a trail of disruption and destruction.
If you are a worshipper in a church that is going through this
attack, pray for the renewing of the body and new growth to come forth
out of the ashes.
As
servants (Christians) of The Lord, we are held to a higher standard
than those who are still lost in the world. Our focus should not be on
possessions but on the Great Commission. We are to give what we
have been given, to those who are still seeking what we have
found. As we give, it will be given back. "Give,
and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken
together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the
same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you (Luke
6:38).”
We all desire to be better and to have newer and nicer things; this is
normal and progressive. However, coveting someone else’s "whatever," is a
sin. Be content with what God gives you this day. If you are honorable
with the least of things then He will give you more - This is the way of
things. If you are reading this teaching and are consumed with a
covetous spirit, know this, 'You will not enter into the gates of heaven
until you are cleansed. For sin, in any form, will not enter into God’s rest.'
"For this you know, that no fornicator, unclean person, nor covetous
man, who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ
and God (Eph 5:5)."
There is only one way to cleanse yourself of sin and that is to come to
Jesus right now, as you are. Ask Jesus to wash you clean, and fill
you with the power of The Holy Spirit, Who will help you to become the
new you in Christ. For in Christ Jesus, you can do all things: not some
things but all things.
LET US PRAY: Thank You Jesus for setting me free from the clutches of greed and covetousness. I will not look to the left or to the right; I will only look to You for all my needs. You are my strength and deliverer and in You, I can do all things. Amen
