I've
often wondered why the bible doesn't speak more about Ananias of
Damascus. I can only imagine the courage and confidence in The Lord it
must have taken for this man to walk down the street called "straight"
to lay hands on the persecutor of the church, Saul.
When The
Lord appeared to Ananias in a vision, Ananias questioned The Lord and
reminded him that Saul's reputation preceded him,
"Lord, I have heard
from many about this man, how much harm he has done to Your saints in
Jerusalem. And here he has authority from the chief priests to bind all
who call on Your name" (Acts 9:13-14)." To this The Lord
replied,
“Go, for he is a chosen vessel of Mine to bear My name before
Gentiles, kings, and the children of Israel. 16 For I will show him how
many things he must suffer for My name’s sake”
(Acts
9:15-16). Though reluctantly no doubt, Ananias went.
I
can see in my minds eye how his legs must have shook as he walked down
that long and narrow path. I can hear the sound of his heart
beating as it resonated inside of his head.
Can
you imagine how parched his mouth must have been as he got closer and
closer to the house of Judas?
Lovelies, having said that, as The Rev and I discussed this word The
Lord revealed to us another aspect of Ananias that we hope will
encourage you to see beyond your own perception; giving time, time for
the workings of the kingdom.
A MAN CALLED ANANIAS:
Though the bible doesn't say much about Ananias, what we do know is
that he was a disciple of Jesus and living in Damascus at the time of
his visitation. In various writings he is also traditionally listed as
one of the 70 disciple's sent out by Jesus (Luke 10). As I pondered
Ananias and his life, The Holy Spirit spoke and gave me something to
consider:
The bible does
not tell us that
Ananias was walking the floors crying, "when, God when?" It does not
say that God came to him by the commands or demands of a faithful
disciple: It says that God came to him in a vision and probably as he
was sleeping (at rest), 10 "Now there was a
certain
disciple at Damascus named Ananias; and to him the Lord said in a
vision, “Ananias.” And he said, “Here I
am,
Lord.”
11 So the Lord said to him, “Arise and go to the street
called
Straight, and inquire at the house of Judas for one called Saul of
Tarsus, for behold, he is praying. 12 And in a vision he has seen a man
named Ananias coming in and putting his hand on him, so that he might
receive his sight” (Acts 9:10-12).
As I am typing this, The Holy spirit is showing me that
the details of Ananias' life
are not mentioned more because it does not matter.
What does matter is that when God
spoke he obeyed.
Lovelies, think about it.. In one moment of time Purpose was revealed
to Ananias, and instantly, a collision with
his
destiny. Because of a faithful disciple named Ananias, the church would
never be the same!
WATERING, WORKING,
WARNING:
1 Corinthians 3:5-10
5 Who then is Paul, and who is Apollos, but ministers through whom you
believed, as the Lord gave to each one? 6 I planted, Apollos watered,
but God gave the increase. 7 So then neither he who plants is anything,
nor he who waters, but God who gives the increase. 8 Now he who plants
and he who waters are one, and each one will receive his own reward
according to his own labor.
9 For we are God’s fellow workers; you are God’s
field, you
are God’s building. 10 According to the grace of God which
was
given to me, as a wise master builder I have laid the foundation, and
another builds on it. But let each one take heed how he builds on it.
Beloved,
you need not give concern to the workings of the kingdom. You only need
to follow Ananias' lead and be true to your assignment to find your
peace. There is a scripture in Ecclesiastes 6:9
that reads, "
Better is the sight of the eyes than the wandering of desire. This also
is vanity and grasping for the wind." To heed these words, is to focus
on the work at hand.
You
have
work to do today - Do it and leave the workings of all things to The
Lord. For who know best, the laborer or the Master?
1 Corinthians 15:58, "58 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast,
immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your
labor is not in vain in the Lord."
Give time a test and do not waste precious moments seeking beyond your
vision.
HERE'S THE NUGGET:
To walk a
path laid out, one must put one foot ahead of the other, not
laboriously but diligently and focused, and sure
footed.
For the path is narrow and a slip of foot may be precarious if not
perilous.
Until next time,
Ascend your steps with grace.
Love, Destiny.
